What makes us unique?

At Milestones we take the time to really listen to your concerns, talk to and observe the child directly, review the child’s records, and, at your discretion you have the option to talk with other relevant people in your child’s life. Our highly skilled and certified diagnosticians and clinicians gather pertinent information and then provide our signature developmental Mapping™ services to determine your child’s current diagnostic profile and developmental level. Through the use of our DEVELOPMENTAL MAPPING™, we are able to create accurate diagnoses, comprehensive treatment planning, and, if desired, Milestones will provide state-of-the-art treatment at our facility.

Children develop in a logical and sequential way; the stage previously learned is a building block for the next stage to come. Just as children need to walk before they can run, all developmental stages must be acquired in a general sequential order. Developmental stages skipped, not mastered, or learned out of sequential order can cause gaps in a child’s development. This often happens with “rote” teaching. The
Milestones Difference is that we assess and mend needed to fulfill developmental stages, setting the rest of the child’s development on a better, and often, more typical trajectory. We also focus on teaching children and their families compensatory strategies to assist with symptom management in cases where symptoms stem from genetic or other
permanent disabilities. Ultimately, we provide the child’s family with valuable tools to enhance the quality of the child’s life.

Another Milestones advantage is our commitment to parent training and education. Understanding and addressing your child’s symptoms can be very stressful for the family. Each evaluation Milestones conducts is paired with educational and/or therapeutic strategies that parents can
implement at home to help their child thrive. Parents and siblings have the option of participating in ongoing support during their child’s treatment.
By partnering together, we create a strong Team!

There are many reasons to seek a formal evaluation. Some families have never had a formal evaluation and are concerned about symptoms their child is exhibiting or just have a “hunch” that something is wrong. Some parents know exactly what their child’s difficulty is, but have reached an impasse in treatment and need expert advice and guidance. Still other families have no concerns about their child’s development per-se, but are
interested in an academic and cognitive assessment simply to see where their child is and ensure they are on the right track.

Reasons to seek an evaluation include:

  • Seeking additional treatment for their child in Speech, OT, PT, or Psychological Services
  • Identifying and offering insight into the child’s areas of strength and challenge.
  • Determining, confirming, or ruling out specific disorders
  • Monitoring a child’s developmental trajectory over time
  • As part of a child’s IEP 3-year re-evaluation
  • As a second opinion for a previous evaluation
  • For parent training
