Physical Assessments & Therapy

Physical Therapy

Physical Therapy encompasses the use of gross motor skills, which use large muscles to sit, stand, walk, run, keep your balance, change positions, and motor plan. Some children with decreased gross motor skills may have difficulty with coordination, range of motion, joint mobility, and strength. Physical therapy helps people develop or recapture muscle strength and endurance and helps people move their bodies with ease.

General Indicators for a PT Evaluation or Treatment:

  • Increased muscle stiffness and tightness, muscle weakness, or limited range of motion
  • General delays in developmental milestones
  • Poor balance and coordination or frequent falling, bumping, or crashing into things
  • Low muscle tone (floppy, poor posture, and/or slouching)
  • Difficulty with kicking, throwing, catching, hopping, skipping, jumping, or running
  • Difficulty with starting new tasks that require movement
  • Difficulty walking on tip-toes (past age 2)

If you answered yes to one or more of these questions in either category, your child may benefit from a Motor evaluation or treatment.  You may want to discuss this with your pediatrician’s office or one of our clinical treatment staff.

Diagnostic Evaluations & Testing

We provide Developmental, Psychological, Speech & Motor Development, Behavioral, and Educational diagnostic evaluations and testing.

Diagnostic evaluations can assist when families notice a symptom or cluster of symptoms and are interested in determining if these symptoms are a variant of normal development or need diagnostic clarification. Our team of expert Psychologists can evaluate children and assist with intervention, if necessary.
