Milestones Day School - Parent Partnerships

 

Milestones partners with parents to help their children achieve goals, grow, and thrive.  In order for effective programming to occur, Milestones provides ongoing communication so we can share information with each other, monthly support and education groups, and training opportunities for families through our parent training program which can occur at home or at our school.  All of the partnership opportunities below are optional, but we strongly encourage families to become involved in their child’s education.

Partnering Opportunities:

OPEN DOOR POLICY
Parents are welcome and encouraged to visit their children anytime they want.  Parents do not need to call or schedule an appointment to stop by the classroom. 

ONGOING EMAILING  AND WEEKLY/DAILY COMMUNICATION 
We encourage emailing between parents and teachers throughout the week.  Milestones provides brief weekly phone conferences for families with their child’s head teacher/case manager to discuss the week. 

BIWEEKLY HOME VISITS
Our Counselors provide bi-weekly or monthly home visits to train families on specific issues that are specifically home-related or to help generalize skills from school to home.  Some common topics include:  sibling relationships, joining community activities,  participating in family activities, homework, chores, etc. 

CLASSROOM WEBPAGE & EVENTS
Each classroom has a webpage full of informative information about activities the class is engaged in, upcoming projects, and photographs/videos of students.  Milestones hosts events about every other month which parents are invited to (i.e, Science Fair, Literacy Day, Community Service Learning, etc.).

PARENT CONFERENCES, COFFEES, & PAC MEETINGS
At the parent’s request, Milestones will provide bi-yearly progress meetings.  Every other month, Milestones hosts a parent’s coffee where families informally gather and meet with Milestones’ Directors to hear about parent’s perspectives and upcoming activities/goals for Milestones.  Six times per year, Milestones Parent Advisory Council (PAC) meets to plan and implement activities for the year.  Milestones PAC has been a driving force in establishing goals and protocols at Milestones. 

SUPPORT & EDUCATION GROUPS
Milestones offers monthly education and support groups where Milestones’ parents can share information and gain support regarding raising a child who has a challenging path.  Milestones also provides free or discounted admission to workshops we host for Milestones’ families. 

QUARTERLY PROGRESS REPORTS
Milestones provides quarterly progress reports based upon the student’s IEP goals.
