Tour Information

Fall 2011 tours run regularly Mondays 10:30-12:00 & Wednesdays 1:00-2:30 (excluding October 10, November 23, and December 26). Registration is required so sign up today for an upcoming Informational Tour of Milestones Day School by emailing Sarah Folk, Head of Admissions, or by calling Sarah at 781-895-3200 x135.

At Milestones, we appreciate the involved, and sometimes overwhelming, process of finding an appropriate school placement for your child or student. Our tours are designed to provide an opportunity for parents, advocates, and school liaisons to get a first-hand look at our program in order to assist in making an informed decision. Referrals are not required to attend a tour.

The informational tour conducted by Sarah Folk, Head of Admissions, consists of a general introduction to the program, a tour of the facility and a question/answer session. Questions may be raised throughout the tour, however depending upon the size of the group, questions may be limited and/or asked to be held for the Q&A session where everyone will be able to hear both questions and answers and participate.

Tours generally last about an hour and a half.

These informational tours are for parents and professionals and not intended for children. We respectfully ask that you please do not bring your child to this information session. Also note that private meetings will not be held at the time of the informational tours.

Admissions Process

We understand changing schools can be stressful for both child and family.  To assist with a smooth transition, we can complete the admissions steps in as little as 1-2 weeks.

STEP ONE:  AGREEMENT TO OUT-OF-DISTRICT PLACEMENT
The school district and parents decide and agree that the child will placed out of district.

STEP TWO:  AGREEMENT TO REFER TO MILESTONES
This district and parents agree to consider Milestones as a placement and send a referral packet which includes the student’s records for us to review.

STEP THREE:  RECORD REVIEW AND INTAKE
Milestones will review your child’s records and meet with your child for about 45-60 minutes (Parents may be present during this meeting).  In addition to the information we have about your child from reading his/her records, this meeting will give us a personal feel for your child as sometimes records only give information about what a child can do or struggles with, but often don’t give a full picture of who your child is.

STEP FOUR:  3-DAY VISIT
If we feel your child may be a good match for our program, we will invite your child to spend three days with us where your child will partake in Milestones academic and therapeutic activities in the potential classroom s/he may be joining. This provides your child with an opportunity to meet peers and staff while experiencing what a day at Milestones will be like.  It also affords us the opportunity to see if our curriculum, teachers, and peers, may be a good match for your child.

STEP FIVE: ADMISSION DETERMINATION
After your child’s 3-day visit, our admissions team convenes to determine if we can meet your child’s needs and if Milestones is a good placement for him/her.  If we believe Milestones will be a good placement, we will notify the district and family by calling and sending an acceptance letter.

STEP SIX:  DISTRICT / FAMILY DECISION & START DATE
If the district and family agree to send the child to Milestones, we can select a start date for your child.

STEP SEVEN:  POST ADMISSION
During the first week the student’s family meets with Milestones’ entire therapeutic and academic team to share information and get to know one another.   In the first 5-6 weeks of starting school, the student receives a comprehensive assessment so Milestones can establish what areas the student needs help with and what goals we will be recommending. In addition we collect data on the student’s skills.  After the 6-week point, we will reconvene the Team which generally includes the family, a member from your child’s district, and the Milestones staff to re-write your child’s IEP.

CAN A FAMILY PRIVATE PAY MILESTONES TUITION?
Yes, Milestones accepts private pay students.  However, we do not accept “unilateral placement”, meaning we will not accept a student and have the family pay tuition while the family attempts to have their school district pay for Milestones.  If a family privately pays for Milestones, they must sign a legal document stating they will not go back after the school district for tuition or legal fees associated with placement at Milestones.

Current tuition for Milestones is: TBD
